March 19, Talk on Gravitational Waves and Night Sky Viewing at the Thomas More Collage BB&T Observatory (Crestview Hills, KY), 8 pm. Dr Wes Ryle will speak on the recent breakthrough discovery pointing toward the existence of gravitational waves, predicted by Einstein’s general theory of relativity more than a century ago. Evening begins with a quick overview of general relativity and discussion of the experiment used to make the first detection of gravitational waves, a discovery that will likely unlock a new view of the Universe not possible with today’s light-based instruments. March 20, Cincinnati Metropolitan Orchestra’s 20th Anniversary Concert at Seton Performance Hall (West Price Hill/Cincinnati). Twenty-three of the original musicians are still with the 60-member ensemble that has played around the region and around the country. Join them for a celebration of two decades featuring Tchaikovsky’s “Mozartiana” and 1812 Overture, arias by Mozart and Gounod, and “Joyous Journey” — an overture commissioned from composer Jeffrey Smith for the anniversary.
