Events through the New Year, plus Epiphany:

Through Dec. 30, 68th Annual Nativity Experience at the Comboni Mission Center (Anderson Twp., OH). Animated dioramas of the Christmas Story, narrated in English and Spanish. No fee; 6 – 9 nightly, 3 – 6 Christmas Eve, closed Christmas Day. For information visit or call (513) 474-4997.

Through Jan. 10, “There’s Something about Mary” Exhibit at Xavier University Art Gallery (CIncinnati). Artist Holly Shapker shares a contemporary view of the ongoing revelation of Mary through paintings in a variety of styles,  inspired by women she has known or admired. No fee. Hours 10-5 Mondays through Fridays;12 – 5 Sundays; and by appointment (closed Dec. 23 – Jan. 3). For information call (513) 745-3811.

Through Jan. 24. “At The Manger: World Nativity Traditions” at the University of Dayton’s Roesch Library (Dayton, OH). Annual display of nativity scenes from the library’s vast collection. This year’s exhibit features how people of many different cultures depict the birth of Christ. No fee; for hours click here.

Dec. 22, Winter Solstice Celebration at the Marianist Environmental Education Center (Mount St. John, Dayton, OH). Candlelight procession through the woods, bonfire, warm beverages and food, more. Register by Dec. 21 at (937) 429-3682.

Dec. 24, St. William Church (Price Hill/Cincinnati) Festival of Carols and Midnight Mass, 11 pm. Annual hour-long service directed by long time (50+ years!) Music Director David F. Allen, will feature the 30 member St. William choir, accompanied by an ensemble from the Cincinnati Metropolitan Orchestra. Welcome Christmas with an hour of sacred music, traditional carols, and orchestral and choral selections in the beautifully decorated church. Doors open at 10:30; Midnight Mass follows. Jan. 1, Archdiocese of Cincinnati World Day of Peace Mass at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains, 11 am. Archbishop Dennis Schnurr will celebrate.

Jan. 1, Archdiocese of Cincinnati (North) World Day of Peace Mass at St. Albert the Great Church (Kettering, OH), 11 am. Bishop Joe Binzer will celebrate.

Jan. 6, Handel’s “Messiah” at St. William Parish (West Price Hill/Cincinnati), 7:30 pm. Leave the rush of Christmas week behind and listen to one of the most inspiring pieces of music ever written.The 35-member St. William Choir, along with soloists and the Cincinnati Metropolitan Orchestra, will perform Sections I and III of Handel’s famed oratorio, under the direction of long-time Music Director David Allen. No charge; free will offering accepted.
