All area teens are invited to a special Teen Mass at Xavier University’s Bellarmine Chapel this Sunday at 2 pm.

Designed by an XU Learning Team, the Chapel’s pastor Fr. Dan Hartnett, SJ; and Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry Sue Antoinett;, the Mass was inspired by several Masses at sports tournaments, says Ray Hayob, whose sons will participate.

“My boys wrestle, and the Masses with all wrestlers that happen at the Catholic Invitational Tournament and that have happened at the GCL  tournament (sadly not last year) are one of my favorite parts of the season,” he says. “Kids have friends at other high schools,  Mass can and should be a great way to unite them in common worship.”

High school students will sing and play the music, will be extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion and acolytes, and will proclaim the readings.

“The homily will be directed toward the students and their culture,” says St. Xavier High School’s Fr. Paul O’Connor, SJ, “using pop-culture to help them understand the Gospel message (just like Jesus used the cultural images of his time).”

A social with activities and refreshments will follow.

Sunday is the third and final Teen Mass of the semester, but three more will be held in the spring. Teens who want to help plan or volunteer for next semester’s Masses should call Sue Antoinette at (513) 289-6557.
