SVdP to Partner with Merrill Lynch
St. Vincent de Paul-Cincinnati has announced a year-long service and donation partnership with Merrill Lynch Wealth Management. The partnership will provide Merrill Lynch associates opportunities to bring assistance and hope to people in need in the communities where they live and work, says SVdP-Cincinnati Community Relations Manager Eric Young, and will help the organization provide aid in four seasonal projects.
The partnership kicked off with a spring drive to purchase mattress sets and collect bedding materials to distribute to families with little or no furniture, and no means to provide basic comforts such as a soft place to sleep.
“It really is heartbreaking when our volunteers visit the homes of our neighbors in need and find small children having to sleep on a cold, hard floor,” said SVdP-Cincinnati Executive Director Liz Carter “Beds are one of our most-requested items, and we are grateful to the Merrill Lynch and their associates for their commitment to providing such a basic but important comfort that many of us take for granted.”
The associates collected enough money to purchase and distribute 65 mattress sets and 50 bedding sets. After the distribution, a Merrill Lynch employee contributed an additional $4,000 to the SVdP-Cincinnati mattress fund. Paired with a matching contribution from the company, that means an additional 80 beds, for a total of 145.
The three remaining seasonal projects are:
· Summer – Bookbags full of school supplies for children in need as they prepare to return to school in the fall.
· Fall – Food and Family Care items as the SVdP Choice Food Pantry stocks up for the large number of people who seek assistance when winter comes.
· Winter – Angel Toy Program, which provides Christmas gifts to struggling families who often have to make tough budgeting decisions that leave little for them to use providing holiday cheer for their children.
