St. Elizabeth Mental Health Hospital Construction Begins
Construction began Friday on a new Erlanger (KY) hospital for the St. Elizabeth system.
Gov. Matt Bevin attended the groundbreaking for the $40 million hospital for mental health and addiction, a joint venture with New Jersey-based SUN Behavioral Health.
The 197-bed facility will also work with Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky to provide services for children and adolescents beginning in 2017, according to the Cincinnati Business Courier.
David Polunas, former CEO of Becket Springs Hospital for substance abuse in West Chester (OH), will be the CEO of the new hospital, which will employ about 400 people including 11 psychiatrists and two doctors specializing in addiction.
According to the Business Courier, St. Elizabeth will transfer 140 behavioral health and chemical dependency beds to the new hospital, but will continue to operate its Falmouth drug and alcohol treatment center, as well as the outpatient center at its Edgewood hospital.
The St. Elizabeth Healthcare system operates hospitals and doctors’ offices thorughout Northern Kentucky and is sponsored by the Diocese of Covington.
