Special Ascension Thursday Masses: UPDATED

Special Ascension Thursday Masses: UPDATED

A Traditional Latin Mass (or Mass in the "extraordinary form") celebrated at Old St. Mary's Church in Cincinnati.

Una Voce Cincinnati writes that the following churches will offer Tridentine (Traditional Latin) Masses tomorrow:

6:30 am St. Bernard (Dayton, KY)

7:15 am  Old St. Mary’s (Over-the-Rhine/Cincinnati) Use the side door in the courtyard…the front doors may be locked. (Note: 1st Vespers of the Ascension will be sung in Latin at Old St. Mary’s on Wednesday at 5 pm — moved from 5:30).

10:00 am St. Bernard (Dayton, KY)

5:00 pm All Saints Church (Walton, KY)

7:00 pm Sacred Heart Church (Cincinnati)

The Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord was traditionally held on Thursday, and was a Holy Day of Obligation (which means Catholics were obliged to go to Mass). Throughout most of the United States — including Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, and the Diocese of Indianapolis — observance has been moved to Sunday, which means one is free to go to Mass Thursday but not obliged to. As every Sunday is a Holy Day of Obligation, attending Mass on Ascension Thursday does not relieve you of attending Sunday as well.

Una Voce Cincinnati is a group of lay Catholics interested in forming a Traditional Latin Mass parish in the city. For information, click on the link above.
