Senate Vote will not Defund Planned Parenthood
In an entirely expected move, the US Senate voted for a bill that would have cut federal funding from Planned Parenthood — but not in numbers large enough to advance it to the House. Also expected was White House spokesman Josh Earnest announcement this weekend that President Obama would veto the bill if it made it to his desk.
All but one Republican Senator voted yes; all but two Democrats voted no. Of the tristate Senators, only Democrat Sherrod Brown (OH) voted against it. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell changed his vote from yes to no — the latter a strategic vote that allows him to reopen the vote later.
From the American Center for Law and justice (which is defending the Center for Medical Progress, which created four undercover videos about released so far about the abortion giant and its treatment of human remains)”
A pro-abortion extremist minority in the U.S. Senate has filibustered a vote to defund Planned Parenthood.
A bipartisan majority of the Senate voted to close debate and vote to cut off the abortion giant’s taxpayer funding, falling short of the 60-vote threshold to avoid a filibuster.
This means that a minority of the Senate – led by Planned Parenthood’s pro-abortion political allies – have blocked a vote.
Planned Parenthood continues to rake in over $500 million of our tax dollars a year. It continues to murder nearly 330,000 babies a year. And it continues to pad its bottom line by selling these murdered babies’ body parts.
Yet 45 Members of the Senate voted to allow this barbarity to continue to be funded by you and me, the taxpayers.
You need to know their names.
The following Senators voted to continue sending half a billion of our tax dollars to Planned Parenthood as it murders babies and sells them for parts:
Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI)
Senator Michael Bennet (D-CO)
Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT)
Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ)
Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA)
Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH)
Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA)
Senator Benjamin Cardin (D-MD)
Senator Thomas Carper (D-DE)
Senator Robert Casey (D-PA)
Senator Christopher Coons (D-DE)
Senator Richard Durbin (D-IL)
Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA)
Senator Al Franken (D-MN)
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY)
Senator Martin Heinrich (D-NM)
Senator Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND)
Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI)
Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA)
Senator Angus King (I-ME)
Senator Mark Kirk (R-IL)
Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN)
Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT)
Senator Edward Markey (D-MA)
Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO)
Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ)
Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR)
Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD)
Senator Christopher Murphy (D-CT)
Senator Patty Murray (D-WA)
Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL)
Senator Gary Peters (D-MI)
Senator Jack Reed (D-RI)
Senator Harry Reid (D-NV)
Senator Bernard Sanders (I-VT)
Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI)
Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY)
Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH)
Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI)
Senator Jon Tester (D-MT)
Senator Tom Udall (D-NM)
Senator Mark Warner (D-VA)
Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA)
Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI)
Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR)
While we must hold these Senators accountable for their vote for barbarity, it is equally important to thank those Senators (a bipartisan majority including Senators Manchin (D-WV) and Donnelly (D-IN)) who spoke out to stop subsidizing Planned Parenthood’s abortion business.
Our fight to defund the abortion giant will not be deterred. A majority of the Senate and a majority of Americans do not want to be forced to pay for this evil.
Most pro-life groups expected the outcome and are working toward legislation that can be passed. Marjorie Dannensfelser, president of the political watchdog group the Susan B. Anthony List, says “the Center for Medical Progress has released less than half of its damning evidence of brutality and callousness at Planned Parenthood and, as more videos are made public, outrage will surely grow. We will support all aggressive efforts this fall to get taxpayers out of Planned Parenthood’s profit-driven, abortion-centered enterprise [and] the Senate must also press on with a vote on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which would save lives by literally taking some children off of the table for vivisection after five months.
“With Hillary Clinton and other national Democratic leaders doubling down on their support for unlimited abortion on-demand, up until the moment of birth, paid for by taxpayers, voters and pundits should expect to see the abortion issue play a major role in the upcoming general election. The majority of Americans who support common ground limits will be looking for pro-life candidates who lead on this issue.”
