Respect Life Office Launches Nine Months with Christ in the Womb Campaign

Prayer cards for a daily prayer to "Christ in the womb" are available as part of the nine-month campaign aimed at helping people respect and honor life in all its stages.

Prayer cards for a daily prayer to “Christ in the womb” are available as part of the nine-month campaign aimed at helping people respect and honor life in all its stages.

More than two dozen of parishes have joined the Nine Months with Christ in the Womb Campaign, a new program created by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati’s Family and Respect Life Office (FARLO).

The campaign is designed to “unite people of goodwill in defence of all life,” says Joshua Danis, of FARLO’s Northern Region office. “FARLO created this campaign to answer a request of Parish Respect Life Coordinators across the Archdiocese for a united effort that we all participate in at the same time.”

It includes monthly reflections on a different biblical story during the earliest moments of Christ’s time on earth, each of which will concern a different social issue such as immigration, the death penalty, care for the elderly, and concern for the disabled.

Participating parishes will receive short weekly reflections that include fetal images they can use to chart Christ’s development in the womb from the start of the campaign — March 25, the Feast of the Annunciation, which celebrates His conception — to Christmas, which celebrates His birth.

They can also order prayer cards featuring a fetal image and a special “prayer to Christ in the womb.” More than 17,000 cards have been ordered so far. (Anyone can order the cards, which include the prayer below. To order, click here.)

In addition to the reflections and prayer, Danis says, FARLO hopes to draw attention to five annual events devoted to life issues. They are:

Cross the Bridge For Life, June 7, 2015 at the “Purple People Bridge”

Fortnight for Freedom, June 21st -July 4th 2015

NFP Awareness Week, July 19-25

LifeTech Conference, Sept 12, 2015 at the University of Dayton

Respect Life Sunday ,October 4th, 2015

If your parish is not participating or you live outside of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, you can still participate — follow the campaign through its Facebook page.

Prayer to Christ in the Womb

The Archdiocese of Cincinnati’s Family and Respect Life Office (FARLO) suggests that participants in the campaign pray this prayer every day for nine months:

Dear Jesus of the Womb, Most fragile child of Mary’s protection, we look to you as the youngest image of perfect innocence.  We lift up our prayers to you who will save each of our souls.  Just as you entered humanity through this most gentle and helpless state, now help us to find your presence in the faces of all the gentle and helpless persons of the earth.  Bless us with eyes that see you and ears that hear you: in the presence of the poor and the outcast, the hungry and the homeless, the condemned and the war-torn, the elderly and the unborn.  May we discover you every day as at Christmas and offer you our gifts every day as at Epiphany.  This we ask of You and the Father, with your Holy Spirit, and in union with Mary your tender home, Amen.
