When Fr. Jim Shappelle passed away in June at age 91, people were quick to share memories and photos of the beloved former pastor and teacher. One-time assistant superintendent for Cincinnati’s Catholic schools, he was ordained a priest in 1948 and over the years worked at area schools and Mount St. Mary’s Seminary of the West; was chaplain for the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor in Cincinnati; and was pastor or assistant pastor at numerous parishes in Dayton and Cincinnati. His last assignment, in 2012, was as parochial of  St. Bernard Church in Spring Grove Village (formerly Winton Place), which included the administration of Mother of Christ Parish. In this photo, taken at St. Vivian Church (Finnetytown/Springfield Twp., OH) on the 60th anniversary of his ordination, some of the many couples he had married over the years posed with him.
