Jelly Bean Mosaic

Jelly Bean Mosaic

Cardinal Pacelli second graders Ellie Kleeman and Kathryn Schulte with the mosaic made from 10 pounds of jelly beans.

First and second graders at Cardinal Pacelli School learned something about the ancient church art of mosaic this year — but with a decidedly sweet twist. The Mt. Lookout (Cincinnati) school created an Easter mosaic using 10 pounds of jelly beans.

“It’s easy if you follow the lines,” says 2nd grader Kathryne Schulte. A loose interpretation of Jean-Marie Pirot’s The Risen Christ, the mosaic’s “cartoon,” or design, was created by art teacher Helen Von Holle and several parent volunteers.

The 2.5 x 4-ft. mosaic is hanging — where else? — in the school’s cafeteria.

Cardinal Pacelli School serves 410 students from preschool to grade 8.
