Feb/Mar: Br. Michael Moran

Feb/Mar: Br. Michael Moran

This month’s contemporary Sacred Heart art is the work of Br. Michael Moran, CP, of Angel Studio, Bronx, NY. “I had a garden, and put sunflowers in it one year,” he says. “That’s where the idea came from to use a sunflower for Jesus’ halo. I had it in a show at the Swedish Church in Manhattan (a Swedish Lutheran church for expat Swedes), and a lady bought it. My friend Michael Skoglund, a photographer, told me some of the Swedes wondered why I had made Jesus so swarthy, dark-eyed and brown-haired, as everyone knows Jesus was blond and blue eyed!!!” Prints of the oil painting can be purchased at his web site. (Click on the picture to enlarge it.)
