The annual Our Lady of Fatima Rosary Crusade will be held on Fountain Square Oct. 12. Events include talks, prayer, and music.

Oct. 4-5, Human Rights Conference at the University of Dayton. UN representatives and  representatives from Doctors Without Borders, Amnesty International, and other organizations will speak at the conference, which will include a free talk by Juan Mendez, UN Special Rapporteur on torture, on Oct. 4 at 7:30 pm. Oct. 5,6, Respect Life Sunday

 

Oct. 5, Launch of new Pilgrimage of Faith Trail “West Side – South Loop” after 8 am Mass at St. Lawrence Church (Price Hill, OH). Hike the 10-mile trail past St. Lawrence, Holy Family, St. William, St. Teresa of Avila, St. Antoninus, and Our Lady of Lourdes Churches at your own pace. Oct. 5, Changing Habits: The Nun Monologues at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 7:30 pm. This humorous and bittersweet play about the history of religious sisters in America by the creators of the international hit Late Night Catechism has been put on at parishes around the country. Tickets: $20 in advance, $25 at the door and include appetizers. Cash bar available. Oct. 6, National Life Chain observance in Downtown Hamilton (OH), 2-3 pm. Right to Life of Butler County hosts this participation in the annual North American event. People will gather on sidewalks in hundreds of cities and towns to protest abortion and encourage adoption. To participate, gather at the Old Butler County Courthouse, where signs will be distributed. Church groups, families, individuals will be instructed to fan out on the sidewalks bordering High Street (maintaining a safe distance from the road and being respectful of sidewalk traffic). Oct. 6, Sunday Vespers featuring the Athenaeum Chorale at The Athenaeum of Ohio/Mount St. Mary’s Seminary of the West (Mount Washington, OH), 7 pm. The Athenaeum Chorale will open its 2013-2104 season at this liturgy celebrated by Fr. Timothy Schehr. Oct. 7, Elizabeth’s New Life Center Banquet at Great Wolf Lodge (Mason, OH), 5:30 pm (dinner at 6:30). Oct. 11, Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Concert featuring Newsboys and for KING & COUNTRY at the Taft Theatre (Cincinnati), 7 pm. Oct. 10, Annual RetroFittings Fashion Show at Music Hall (Cincinnati) featuring the University of Cincinnati’s DAAP fashion design students and benefitting the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Oct. 12, 7th annual Our Lady of Fatima Rosary Crusade on Fountain Square, noon. One of more than 10,000 Rosary Crusades being held around the world that date. Music by Mrs. Fatima Spoor, the Cincinnati Community Schola, and Mr. Ric Aielli; free Marian literature. Bishop Joe Binzer will speak on Marian Devotion; Fr. Andre’-Joseph LaCasse, OP, will lead the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary; Deacon Amado Lim will lead in reciting the Litany to Blessed Virgin Mary; and Fr. Cyril Whitaker, SJ, will give a talk on the chastisement. Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will formally process onto Fountain Square carrying a replica of the International Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima. Oct. 12, 7th Annual Family Fun Night for Haiti at St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Morris (IN). Silent Auction and Soup Cook-off dinner. Oct. 13, Pumpkin Memorial at Xavier University sponsored by XU Students for Life, 7 – 9 pm. Students will carve 500 pumpkins to commemorate the nearly 4,000 babies killed every day by abortion in the United States. Music, food and drinks, prayer, and lighting ceremony at dusk. Held in the XU greenspace near Bellarmine Chapel; no charge.
