Chaminade Julienne High School (Dayton, OH) freshman Madison Grothouse got an early Christmas present of the best kind when her brother Nick, a Specialist with the Ohio Army National Guard, walked into her fifth period biology class.
Nick, who served a term of active duty in Afghanistan and had been gone for seven months, had flown to Columbus from Texas with his unit earlier that day. His parents Michael (CJ class of ‘81) and Jeana arranged the surprise and came along.
“I knew he was coming home, I just didn’t know when,” Madison said. “I was just filled with happiness. Normally I don’t cry, and I especially hate crying in front of people, so that was a surprise too.”
