Kendall Hunt Publishing Company of Dubuque, IO, has purchased Cincinnati’s RCL Benziger.

The Catholic publisher of education materials will keep its name and Cincinnati corporate office, according to a press release from Kendall Hunt, which specializes in science, math and “gifted” materials. The family-owned company was originally part of William C. Brown, a Catholic publisher that started in Chicago in the 1970s. Under the brand KendallHunt, it currently publishes K-12 materials for public and private schools, including several customized Christian science and literature curricula.

Benziger will return Catholic products to the company’s offerings. Founded in 1792, Benziber RLC is one of the oldest Catholic publishers in the United States. Its educational and faith formation offerings include school and parish formation books, CDs,and  electronic resources including the “Faith First” and “Be My Disciples” lines.

“Passion is key in K-12 education. At Kendall Hunt, our customers are passionate about their curriculum and looking for new, innovative ways to teach today’s youth,” said Kendall Hunt Publishing President and Chief Operating Officer Chad Chandlee.

“This acquisition will allow both Kendall Hunt and RCL Benziger to explore intelligent ways to integrate new products and services into our curricula. Both companies have a rich, long-standing, positive reputation in the marketplace and the two coming together will better serve today’s customers.”

Peter M. Esposito, President of RCL Benziger, said the two companies have much in common. “Our legacy brands deliver highly engaging customer-centric content to their respected markets,” he said.

“With Kendall Hunt as our parent company, I see on the horizon our ability to create and offer more integrated digital learning tools and solutions, in addition to customizing content for Catholic Schools and parishes throughout North America.”

The acquisition was announced Aug. 16th.
