April’s Heart of the Month is at Sacred Heart Church/Divine Mercy Parish in Bellevue, Kentucky.

The historic Sacred Heart Church was built in 1874. According to the parish history, only about 400 people lived in the area at the time. Area Catholics — half Irish and half German — attended Mass in Bellevue until the German speakers built Sacred Heart. English speaking Catholics built St. Anthony Church, the second parish in Bellevue, that same year. The two parishes eventually merged to form Divine Mercy.

This life-sized figure engraved on a stone slab is in set into a masonry enclosure in a small plaza in the enclosed garden at the back of the church.
