Races

 

Sept. 1, Annual AlterFest Family 5K  and Kids Fun Run at Alter High School. The Alter Track and Cross Country and Field Boosters Association runs this annual race as part of its Labor Day AlterFest activities. Course: Flat ground and around Alter High School. Cause: Alter Track and Cross Country programs. Race time: 8:15 am 5K, 8 am Fun Run. Race fee: None ($15 tshirt). Sept 1: Annual Mercy Metric 10K Run and 5K Run/Walk. Course: Lunken Playfield (Cincinnati). Cause: Mercy Montessori after-school sports program. Race time: 8:30 am all races. Fee: $30 ($20 without a race t-shirt) through Aug. 30. Call (513) 475-6700 for information; register online here.

 

Sept. 20, Terry Kersey’s Climb 5K Run/Walk at Colerain Park (OH). Time: 10 am. 5K run followed by 5K walk; benefits medical costs for teacher Terri Kersey, who suffered a stroke in Africa while climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro for charity a year ago and still working on speech and physical therapy. Basket raffles, split the pot, and bake sale; clowns will entertain. No fee; donate any amount. Sept 20th: 5th Annual CareNet Pregnancy Services of Northern Kentucky Walk for Life 5K Run/Walk at Pioneer Park (Covington). Fee: $30/person, $100 family team, $500 adult teams of five (includes team tshirt). Race time: 9 am (registration opens at 8 am). To register online, click here.

 

Sept. 21, Jill Hungler Schlotman Memorial Walk for Cancer Awareness at McAuley High School (College Hill/Cincinnati). Time: 9:30 am. Non-competitive walk; three-loop course around campus. No set fee; donate any amount. Pets and strollers welcome; walkers encouraged to walk in memory of alumnae, parents, and special friends who have lost their battles with cancer. Money raised from this annual walk goes toward a scholarship in honor of 2007 alumna  Jill Hungler; organizers hope to raise $5000. Register on-site at 9 am or online here. Sept 28: Sophie’s Angel Run. This annual race in memory of Sophie Grace Meinhardt starts and ends at the St. Jude Oktoberfest. Course: Through Bridgetown (Cincinnati) Cause: Pediatric Brain Tumor Research at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and scholarships. New for 2014: Chip timing by Don Connolly, Inc. Start time: 1 pm. Race fee: $20/individual ($25 race day), $65 “family plan” (two adults, two children). Online and paper registration information here. Race is part of St. Jude’s Oktoberfest: Enjoy authentic German food, beverages, music and dance; children’s rides and games. 

Oct: Running Scared 5K and Fun Run. Sts. Peter and Paul Academy holds this Halloween-themed race as it its major fundraiser; many participants wear costumes. Course: Flat course through Reading (Cincinnati), including Reading Cemetery, that ends at a Halloween Festival. Cause: Youth education. Awards are given at the finish line — no ceremony. Nov. 8: Cincinnati Right to Life’s Pro-Life Saver 5K Run/Walk and Kid’s Dash. Course: Lunken Airport Playfield. Cause: Cincinnati Right to Life. Race time: 8:30 am. New fall date and site for this event for all ages. Walking race is for serious walkers only; if you plan to run or jog at all register for the Run.  After-event festivities. Nov: Run for All Souls training event for Run for the Call participants. Train for Flying Pig Marathon events with other Catholic runners and walkers. Simultaneous 1/2-hour training session at four locations in Cincinnati, Troy, Sidney, and Beavercreek. For more information see the Run for the Call blog.

 

Nov: Annual Turkeyfoot Trot 5K and Kids Run at St. Barbara’s Church (Erlanger, KY). Course: Straight out-and-back along Turkeyfoot Road “with the fastest first mile you’ll ever run.” Cause: Society of St. Vincent DePaul – NKY. Runners and walkers of all ages welcome; free kids’ run follows race. Gift cards will be presented to the overall winning male and female runners and walkers and to the top three runners of each male and female age group. Race time: 9 am. Race fee: $20 pre-reg (includes long-sleeved t-shirt while supplies last); $25 race day. Register at Tri-State Running Company in Edgewood from 10 am – 8 pm Nov. 7th or from 10 am – 6 pm Nov. 8th. Nov: Our Lady of Lourdes Divine Dash 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Sprint. Course: Begins and ends in OLL parking lot. Cause: The Dottie Westerfeld Tuition Fund; the OLL choir and athletic club; Pack 42; Sandy O Fund; and youth group. Nov. 16th, First Annual Knights of Columbus 5k Run / Walk for Vocations at St. Charles Center, Carthegena (OH). Course: Scenic, flat grounds of St. Charles Center and surrounding area. Cause: Vocations awareness and support. Fee: $11 (no shirt included); $20 (with commemorative shirt) pre-registration. Awards to top three male and female runners will include pumpkin pies. Most annual races are held around the same time each year. Use these dates and information for 2014 meantime as a general planning guide.

 


March 8: Quo Vadis 5K/10K.
  New race for Covington Latin High School. Course: Around Covington. Cause: Covington Latin School Booster Club. Race time: 9 am. Race fee: $25 for 10K, $15 for 5K (add $5 for same-day regisstration and $10 for t-shirt). 5K and 10K run, 5K fitness walk; awards for top male and female in each race category and age level, food and activities after race. March 8: Annual Cavalier 5K Run/Walk. Course: Around Purcell Marian neighborhood. Cause: Cavalier Athletic Department and events sponsored by the Parents Plus Program (P3). Race time: 9 am. Fee: $20 adults, $10 students (add $10 for t-shirt). Online registration here.

March 24, 6th Annual Ursuline Academy Run for the Lions 5K. Course: A flat course around Ursuline Academy in Blue Ash (Cincinnati). Cause: Ursuline Academy. Pre-race mass at 7:30. Race time: 8:30 am. Fee: Preregistration fees range from $15 (students) to $25; $30 race day. Race will be followed by a breakfast, and awards ceremony, and live entertainment. Register online here. Web site here.

March 29: 7th Annual Guardian Angels School Heavenly Hog Jog and Kids Fun Run. Course: Through Mt. Washington (Cincinnati) with music and fans cheering along the way. Cause: Guardian Angels School. A free after-race party will include food. Race time: 9 am (Kids Fun Run after the race concludes). Web site here.

March 29, Annual St. Vincent de Paul 5K Run/Walk, Sawyer Point, CIncinnati. Benefits SVdP- Cincinnati, and SVdP- NKY. Race time: 9 am. Race course: Begins at the Cincinnatus statue at Sawyer Point, travels across the Purple People Bridge into Kentucky and back. Race fee: $30 adullt, $20 student (add $5 on race day); $18/member for teams of five of more; $10 kids 400 meter dash. Trophies for overall 5K male and female winners and age group winners; participants who raise $100 will receive a water bottle; participants who raise $200 will receive a water bottle and a drawstring backpack; and top fundraisers will be entered in a special drawing. April 5, St. Rita CCR 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run in Winton Woods (Cincinnati). Course: Winton Woods. Cause: St. Rita Comprehensive Communications Resources. Race time: 9 am; Kids Fun Run immediately following. Race fee: $15 (13 and over), $10 (12 and under), no fee 3 and under; add $5 for t-shirt. Same-day registration $20. Race will be chip timed; prizes to male and female age group winners. After-race celebration with music, dancing, refreshments. Register online here.

 

April 6: Elder Family Fun Walk. This fundraising 5K, in its fifth year, has no associated race. Elder invites alumni, family, and friends to the event featuring children’s activities, live music, and food at “The Pit.” Course: Price Hill streets around the school. Cause: Elder High School general tuition fund and a designated charity. Fee: $10 (maximum $40 for families) for pre-registrants.

 

April 12: 4rd Annual Blue Jay Jog n Jam 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run. St. Joseph Consolidated School PTO sponsors this race. Course: Mostly flat course around lake in VORA Technology Park, Hamilton. Cause: St. Joseph Consolidated School. Race time: 9 am. Fee: $25 with t-shirt ($30 after 3/28), $15 under age 12 ($20 after 3/28). Fee includes Dri-Fit shirt and one Chinese Raffle ticket. Certified, time-chipped course; post-race picnic. Register online here.

April 12: Annual Incline to the Finish Line 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run. Course: Challenging course around St. Joseph Home in Sharonville (OH) ends with an up-hill climb and a famous cheering section. Cause: St. Joseph Home, the only agency in Hamilton County providing residential and respite programs to non-ambulatory, non-verbal and medically fragile infants, children and adults. Race time: 9 am. Fee: $35 (includes wicking t-shirt) through 3/20, $45 after; $30/member for teams of four or more; breakfast following race at Waffle House (no fee). Register online here.

April 12: Annual St. Louis School “Cardinal Crawl.” Bring a donation to the food pantry on race day. 5K Run-Walk-Crawl sponsored by St. Louis School (Batesville, IN). Cause: St. Louis School and local food pantry. April 26, Second Annual St. Joseph Church 5K Walk/Run (North Bend, OH). Course: Begins at St. Joseph Church and proceeds through the village of North Bend and Cleves (new route). Race time: 9 am. Race fee: $20 ($15 for youth 18 and younger); $25 on site. T-shirts $10. Awards for top male and female finishers in various age groups and overall; post-race celebration with food, music, more. May 3, St. Vincent de Paul Dayton Spring 5/K Walk. NEW for 2014 (replaces non-sanctioned Fall Friends of the Poor® Walk. Race time: 10 am. Race fee: $20 before April 15 (includes t-shirt). Chip-timed; teams welcome. Register online here.

 

May 3,4: Flying Pig Marathon Weekend. 5K and 10K Saturday; Marathon and half Marathon Sunday. Many Catholic charities benefit from Cincinnati’s Flying Pig events — including Run for the Call, which raises money to help seminarians at Mt. St. Mary’s Seminary pay their room and board.

May 11: Christ the King Family Fun Run. Our Lord Christ the King parish sponsors this race. Course: A flat 5K run for adults and a 1-mile run for kids at Otto Armleder Park in Linwood. Cause: Cardinal Pacelli School Education Fund. Fee: $20 adult; $10 child; $50 family; $75 sponsor (t-shirt included with registrations made before April 27). May 17: Paige’s Princess Run. This family 5K in memory of Paige Helene Alessandro, a St. Maximilian Kolbe parishioner, will be held at Wyandot Elementary School in Liberty Township (OH) and followed by a Family Carnival. Course: Through Summerlin, Liberty Township. Cause: Paige’s Princess Foundation. Race time: 9 am (racers) 9:05 am (families). Many runners wear princess skirts and fairy wings. Fee: $25 adult; $15 youth; $60 families with 3-6 participants (on-site registration, add $5). Register online here.

June 8: Annual St. Gertrude 5K Run/Walk, “Run to Remember.” The race will help grieving families by forming teams to run in tribute to families who have suffered a loss. Course: Through Madiera (Cincinnati). Cause: St. Gertrude. The race is part of the parish’s three-day festival, so many other activities follow. Race time: 8:30 am.

June 8: 21st Annual Run for the Poor. The St. Martin District Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul sponsors this annual race. Course: Around St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parisn in Milford/Mt Repose (CIncinnati). Cause: SVdP Conferences in Adams, Brown, Clermont, Clinton, Highland, and Warren Counties. Race time: 9 am. Fee: Prerestration $15 (t-shirts available for $10); race day registration $20 (t-shirts $12). Register online here.

 

June 14: Fourth Annual Father Klein Memorial 5K Run/Walk, sponsored by Holy Name of Jesus parish in Trenton (OH). Cause:  Edgewood Ministerial Association Food Pantry and Local Emergency Assistance Fund (LEAF). Course: Three laps of Trenton Community Park’s one-mile trail. Race time: 10 am. Race fee: $20; $15 students and seniors (includes t-shirt) $10 student (no t-shirt); registrations after May 31st will not receive shirt. Prizes, ribbons, divisions for men and women 40 and over, and under 40. Refreshments and snacks following race.

June 14, Holy Angels  Parish Picnic 5K Run/Walk sponsored by Holy Angels (Sidney, OH). Course: Begins and ends at Shelby County Fairgrounds, travels through the picturesque Spruce, Westwood, and Evergreen neighborhoods. Cause: Holy Angels Parish. Race time: 8:30 am. Same-day registration begins at 7:30. Race-day fee: $15 and $20.

June 21: Third Annual Chatfield College 5K Fun Run/Walk. Course: The St. Martin’s campus of Chatfield College. Cause: Chatfield College. Course is flat; strollers and leashed pets permitted. Race time: 9 am.  Fee: $15 for adults over 18; $8 for students and children (includes t-shirt). Trophy for overall winner; medals for division winners. Register online here.

June 21, Tame the Terrain Obstacle Race and Tamers-in-Training Mini Race at Muscatatuck County Park in Jennings County, IN. 3.5 mile course includes 20 obstacles including fire, a river, and mud pits on a wooded terrain. Cause: Youth and young adult ministries at St. Ann, St. Joseph and St. Mary’s parishes. Tames-in-Training for ages 4 to 12. Family-friendly event with music, food and drink available. June 21, Ascension Festival 5K Run at Ascension Parish in Kettering (OH). Course: Neighborhood surrounding church. Cause: Ascension Parish. Race time: 8:15 am. Same-day registration beings: 7 am. Fee: $25 (includes t-shirt while supplies last). For information email Ascension5K@yahool.com.

July 4: Annual Tony Merk Pray-Hope-Believe Walk/Run and Free Superhero Sprint. This 5K and Kids Fun Run at the Colerain Township Municipal complex is dedicated to the memory of Tony Merk and benefits pediatric brain tumor research. The course through a residential area is mostly flat and begins with a downhill start. 8:15 am flag ceremony, 8:30 am Run/Walk, 9:30 am kids’ Superhero Sprint. Race will be chip-timed, teams welcome, team photos will be available. Fee: $15 age 13 and under, $20 14 and up. To register online click here

July 4, Wapakoneta Firecracker 5K Run/Walk at the Auglaize County Fairgrounds. Hosted by the Friends of the Wapakonta Library and the St. Joseph Festival. Race time: 9 am. Fee: $18 (before June 15), $22 through day of race. Register online here.

July 12, Running with the Saints 5K at Immaculate Heart of Mary parish (Burlington, KY). Race time: 8 am. Same-day registration begins: 7 am. Same-day race fee: $30 adults, $20 children (includes t-shirts while supplies last). Music, children’s activities, food, prizes. For information click here.

July 20, Angel Run 5K and Children’s Fun Run in North Star (OH). The Topp family organizes this race in remembrance of “all lost loved ones” every year. Part of the Fireman’s & American Legion Picnic. Course: Flat, scenic course begins and ends at North Star Park. Cause: Angel Run Scholarship, North Star Fire Department, North Star American Legion. Chip timed, plaques for top three finishers in each division, door prizes, more. Race time: 9 am. July 27, Walk of Angels 5K Walk/Run, Spring Grove Cemetery (Cincinnati). Created to honor the memory of three Corpus Christi Blaze track team members who died the same year. Course: Historic Spring Grove Cemetery (wooded, hilly terrain). Cause: Soccer club and soccer camp scholarships; Driving Angels distracted driving classes. Race time: Opening ceremoies 8:30 am; staggered start times. Aug. 2, Blue Jay 5K, St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring, KY.  Race start 9:15; free kids’ run on the grounds of St. James School following the 5K. Race-day registration begins at 8 am ($30). August 9: 32nd Annual Newtown (OH) 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run. Run by St. John Fisher Parish. Course: Moundview Park, Newtown. Cause: Newtown Civic Association; St John Fisher Parish;  Inter-Parish Ministries Food Pantry; Newtown (CT) Family Services. Race time: 9 am (may change to 8:30; check with site for final time). Fee: $20 before August 2 (t-shirt included), $25 after (no t-shirt; available for an additional $10). Corporate sponsorship $175 (up to seven runners, t-shirts included). Aug. 14: The Hyde5. St. Mary parish sponsors this annual weeknight, evening run as part of its St. Mary Parish FunFest. Course: Through Hyde Park. Cause: St. Mary parish, outreach programs, and school. Chip timed, more information to come.

Aug. 16, St. Henry HS Crusader Back to School 5K Race/Walk and Kids Fun Run at at St. Henry District High School (Erlanger, KY), 9 am. Course: Around St. Henry HS. Cause: St. Henry HS scholarships (run for any of 12 scholarships or for the school distribute). Race fee: $20 before Aug. 13; $10 kids fun run (K – 5th grade); add $5 for same-day registration; t-shirts $10. “Come as Many, Run as One.” Fun for the whole family — cookout and party follows the race with a kids’ bounce house, an alumni soccer game, more. Aug. 16: Viva la Vida, Lucas Pfander Memorial Alumni Race at Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School (Dayton). Course: CJ campus. Cause: Lucas Pfander Scholarship, annual scholarship for a CJ rising senior. Race time: 6:30 pm (1-mile youth run / 1-mile adult walk), immediately followed by 2-mile adult run. August 16: 9th Annual St. Chris 5K Run for the Youth. All ages. Cause: St. Christopher youth mission trips. Race time: 8:30 am.
