50th St. Patrick Parade, 65th Annual Mass for Irish Next Week
If this weekend is for the Germans, next weekend is for the Irish. Saturday one of the city’s largest parades will celebrate its 50th anniversary, and on Sunday the Memorial Committee for Friends of Ireland, a group made up of representatives from local Irish societies and fraternal groups, will sponsor the 65th annual Memorial Mass for the deceased friends of Ireland at Cincinnati’s Cathedral .
Cincinnati St. Patrick’s Day Parade is set for noon March 12th, rain or shine. This year’s Grand Marshals are WGRR’s “Married with Microphone” hosts Chris O’Brien and Janeen Boyle. For the parade route, click the link above.
The March 13th Mass is one held every year to honor and perpetuate the memory of people who worked for Ireland’s freedom. This year’s Mass has a special focus on those working for the continued success of the Good Friday Agreement in Northern Ireland.
Fr. Barry M. Windholtz will celebrate th 11 am Mass, which will be preceded by a medley of Irish music sung by the Friendly Sons of St Patrick Glee Club at 10:40. The Ancient Order of Hibernians-St Patrick’s Division No. 1, Our Lady of Knock Color Guards, and the Emerald Society Pipes and Drums will participate in the ceremonies. Music at Mass will be sung by the Cathedral Choir and the Friendly Sons of St Patrick Glee Club.
Refreshments will be served immediately after the Mass in the Undercroft. All are invited.
